Aims and Content: Our aim is to develop technical skills and increase the
understanding of the importance of technique for artistic expression.
We focus on alignment, posture, movement initiative, control, physical
and mental presence in the exercises and on stage, expansive movement,
dynamics, movement quality and mobility. Improvisation and
composition exercises form part of the lessons.

Assessment: Active participation is essential for a pass mark. The
assessment of the course affects the mark for dance technique
in the final report.

Title of Course: Jazz Dance

Duration: 92 lessons

Aims and Content: Students learn to develop their technical skills, to improve their
body coordination, alignment and strength, and to acquire the energetic
and artistic expression of jazz dance. The lessons consist of technique
exercises, rhythmics, dynamic exercises and movement combinations.

course affects the mark for dance technique in the final report.

Title of Course: Bodycondition

Duration: 81 lessons

Teacher: Tytti Kronqvist

Aims and Content: Students go through a process during the year in which the aim is
to learn how to optimize body alignment as well as their own strength and
mobility balance. The course deals with different stretching techniques,
relaxation and breathing techniques, the body’s physiological possibilities
and limitations, and movement analysis. Individual exercises
combine theory and practice. The exercises are supported by the
course in anatomy and training physiology.

Title of Course: Anatomy and Training Physiology

Duration: 34 lessons

Teacher: Tytti Kronqvist

Aims and Content: The aim is to consolidate and supplement such existing
knowledge of anatomy and physiology as supports work on dance
technique. The course deals with body movement functions,
kinesiology and biomechanics, all of which facilitate the understanding
the body’s possibilities and limitations in relation to the demands of dance
and optimal health. Other parts of the course deal with posture and its
components, energy production and nutrition. The course is supported by
the body care course with practical exercises around the same themes.

Assessment: Active participation and successful completion of assignments are
essential for a pass mark.

Title of Course: Production Work

Duration: 84 lessons

Teacher: May vary from year to year. Spring 2009 Kati Raatikainen
and Mari Koponen.

Aims and Content: To produce a performance. Methods of work and
content depend on the choreographic concept.

Assessment: Active participation and satisfactory completion of individual
assignments.

Duration: 30 lessons

Aims and Content: Students are familiarized with the core components
of flamenco and learn to develop their expressive ability and
stage presence.

Title of Course: Study Visits and Excursions

Duration: 18 lessons

Teacher: Tytti Kronqvist

Aims and Content: To arouse interest in different artictic approaches via
performances, exhibitions and other interesting activities.

Assessment: Active participation is essential for a pass mark.

Short cources, varying in number and content. 12-16 participants.

Duration: 15 hrs
