Welcome to a living and creative study environment in Karjaa (Karis) in Raseborg (Raasepori), halfway between Helsinki (Helsingfors) and Turku (Åbo). We start the study year 2010 -2011 in new art studios in the newbuilt wing of the college. We offer both specialized one-year programmes and short courses.
A year at the folk high school will prepare you for future challenges and the short courses will allow you to raise your competence and develop your own personality.
If you are interested in web production, international issues or soundart, then Västra Nylands Folkhögskola and its campus have something to offer you. Several languages are spoken at the college every day. The teaching languages are Swedish and English. The CDM - Culture & Communication programme is taught entirely in English.
The European Commission rewards Västra Nylands folkhögskola for its active international cooperation
With the aim of promoting quality in mobility and international cooperation in adult education, The European Commission has selected from around 200 educational projects funded over the past years 10 mobility projects which stand out for their quality. These 10 examples of best practice have been published in the European Success Stories, a brochure available in all EU official languages. Two of the international projects in which Västra Nylands folkhögskola has been lead partner have been selected among the five best at European level. These are TEACh – Teaching European Active Citizenship, and UNEC – Uniting Europe through Cultures.
Moreover, the Commission has awarded Grundtvig European Lifelong Learning Awards to three best mobility projects in adult education in Europe. UNEC – Uniting Europe through Cultures was honoured with a Bronze Grundtvig Lifelong Learning Award. Mr Radu Szekely, Coordinator of International Affairs at Västra Nylands folkhögskola, received the award at a ceremony held on 13th of June 2008 in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
