Structure

The European Commission selects every year, through the National Lifelong Learning Agencies, a number of quality in-service training courses that are open to participants from all countries participating in the Lifelong Learning Programme. Applicants who are accepted to the course are entitled to receive a Grundtvig or Comenius grant that will cover all their travel, subsistence and participation costs. TEACh – Teaching European Active Citizenship Courses are eligible for such grants. Contact us or your National Lifelong Learning Agency for details, or click here to read further information on Grundtvig/Comenius in-service training.

The general aim of the TEACh Courses is to improve the training of persons involved in non-formal education in the area of teaching active citizenship. The teachers/trainers participating in the courses will acquire first-hand knowledge about the competencies related to active citizenship and methods for teaching these competencies. Thus equipped, they will improve the quality of education in their home institutions, will raise the awareness of citizens and increase participation in democracy.

The training addresses such competencies and aptitudes as:
• self-expression
• intercultural dialogue, negotiation
• belonging, inclusion
• attentiveness & sensitivity
• openness, externalisation
• empowerment
• knowledge
• values & attitudes
and it explores their relation to active participation in society. The course will help people understand how to relate to community and society, how their belonging gives them both rights and duties, and how to take citizenship from a personal to a local, national, and global level.

The programme includes 20 hours of pre-course preparation and 35 contact hours during a residential course. The latter part will take place during one week of intensive training at the locations mentioned here and at other locations to be announced later.
